  1. When Chinese nationals abroad say "they don't know", it is likely one of the two:
    1. they actually have opinions, whether extreme dissenting opinions against CCP values or otherwise, but they feel safer keeping themselves silenced. I've heard that a Chinese student was asked to criticise the CCP as part of their assignment but he refused and did the exact opposite. The prof said that he'd have to fail him and he hinted that it was better than risking his life.
    2. they are actually so perfectly brainwashed and trained that they genuinely believe everything they've been indoctrinated. Skewing facts in history textbooks to favour a ruling party is not China's specialty; it happens in many places too.

But the scarier part would be when they are so trained to uphold patriotism that they verbally attack and confront individuals of other nationalities for dissenting opinions. 1 Chinese student asked another: What would you do if you saw a HK person protest in front of this building (ie. this is not in China, Taiwan or HK). When the response was he'd leave the student to do whatever he wants, the student got worked up and critcised the person for not doing "what's right" and that he should go and tear the placards down and stop the protester even if it's a one-man protest.

  2. I am confused how Trump (among limitless other things but let’s grab 2 recent ones) can spread mail voter fraud conspiracy theories, claim the 75 year old man that we all saw blood pouring from his ear & has been in intensive care was an intentional setup, yet feel the need to send a cease and desist letter to CNN for an online poll. We really need a new defining term for his continued incomprehensible level of hypocrisy. I cannot imagine not having net neutrality.

  3. I think it's a great move from Hassan to criticize Saudi and China together, so that people cannot tell him "what about your muslim Saudis ?". Great strategy bro and great research you have done!

  4. I’m a Chinese, I’m ok with you mocking ZHU Jun, and I’m ok with you mocking our censorship policy. You are right about these. But please don’t mocking our culture. People dress up like a chicken during the most famous Chinese New Year TV program because it was the chicken year. And watching that tv program on New Year’s Eve despite we all know it’s lame, it is still a national culture. People like my parents and grandparents watched and loved the show for decades. You can respect Muslim with their religion, so I think you can respect our culture, you can do it.

  5. Hahaha it’s partly about censorship but partly about protecting big data from foreign tech companies. Do you think European countries are happy about google, Facebook getting all data for free? Chinese are 100% in support of our own tech companies. It’s all western narrative, and western perspectives, that’s why even if many Chinese watched this, you would not be able to reach them. Honestly and sadly, I rarely see western media coverage about China is really about Chinese people instead of our government only, and maybe it’s new or badass for you or your audience, we are really tired of this talking point, because it feels like what we, 1.4 billion people, mean for western media is a piece to be used to attack our government. if you really care about us and want to cover Chinese women’s right and ethnic minorities, starting from our cultural perspective and social structure, getting to the root, getting to how men and women behave and think and maybe also the mass killing of people in Yunnan province where around 100 people in that small train station were butchered by extremists from Xinjiang. CCP does not have that of a big say in our daily life, It’s funny to see you guys always make such a big fuss about CCP. I like your other shows, maybe because I don’t have experience or much knowledge to judge, but this one is hollow, especially when you talked about Tiananmen and the very first thing shown was Triumphal Arc in Paris. And that infamous tank scene, I dare you to show the whole clip, where the boy was dragged by his friends and eventually left unharmed. That’s why we are skeptical of western media, as we have seen too much skewed report in the name of ‘free and independent’ and your source is only from one side.

  6. Dear Hassan: the Tiananmen Square protests were NOT about democratic reforms. They were about the ending of public funding for university education, and the introduction of student debt. Tiananmen Square was a protest against the capitalisation of post-secondary education. This is fact, and easily learned.
America is literally the most propagandists nation on the planet. What fools you is that America, land of fraud, is the only nation dishonest enough to charge a cash price in addition to the cost of personal autonomy.

  7. Post-Snowden/Assange America still thinks Tiananmen happened as they were brainwashed to believe…..and are lecturing others on thought control lol.
