My 1-person summer cookset | TOAKS 750 ml Titanium pot & BRS mini canister stove

A quick overview of my 1-person summer cookset. When I got on solo trips in the summer, all I need is a small cookset that gives me the ability to quickly boil 2 …

  1. Marty, I "think" that the little "useless" triangle tab on the top of the lid has two positions (side to side), I think you can lift it up, then move it sideways a little bit and it'll stay up! Just a minute, I'm gonna go check on mine (play theme music from Jeopardy) . . . . . . . OH, mine is a Snowpeak so different setup. But, check that little tab on the top because I seem to recall from other videos that it can easily set up to stay up.

  2. Stick a green small twig underer. I said that! A little longer than the lid is wide. Good video… looks like you have a hike on your mind! Love remembering the stories of the "ding's" in gear! GET OUT, STAY OUT!!! – LTE.

  3. I have a similar cooking setup. I recently added the Toaks 1100 ml pot to my collection. It’s nice to be able to boil a little more water at a time, especially when winter camping, when melting snow is your only option for drinking water. I always carry a Leatherman multi tool on my belt when I’m out and I always use the pliers to take the lid on and off as well as moving the entire pot around when I’m cooking on a fire. Good video!

  4. Same setup I;ve been using for the last 3 years. Still waiting for that little BRS stove to fail,so far going like a champ.

  5. Can you check the Ti vs Al comment about energy dissipation? I find the Al also is very fast to cool off and the only difference is overall pot size.

  6. I liked my BRS stove a lot, too, until it became quite unsafe. No amount of weight savings is worth having a piece of gear that gives me such concerns. After 1 season of use, I bent an arm (my fault), so the pot was extra tippy. It is already up so high an awkward stir or bump can topple it. Any breeze sucks out the fuel efficiency, and you can't put a windscreen directly on it (idiot me tried that once and stopped when I realized what I was doing). The truly dangerous part came when it started to damage the canister, so the it could not be removed between uses without losing all the gas, (sound familiar?) and then fuel started to slightly leak out of the off valve. I realized I would never let my teens use it for safety, so why was I? Gone!

  7. I think I've never seen you so calm and relaxed on a video. 🙂 Perhaps it's because you didn't had your coffee yet 🤪 Surprised to see that there's still snow at your house. Nice little setup you have there for the summer!

  8. Those titanium pot lids-argh!
Why cant they electro-weld a slightly canted and springy metal ring that will allow it to snap (and therefore Stay) on the pot. Have a tiny relief hole drilled thru the top.

  9. The triangle handle on the lid slides to lock it in the "up" position. You could always squeeze the opening to be a little tighter. Not great but may help a little.

  10. Marty, I was waiting for you to put the damn lid on ! Also get yourself a long handle metal spoon, the end of the handle works great for dealing with the lid ! On and off, also much better also to eat out of food bags, Cheers

  11. My ultra lite weight loadout is pretty much the same. Only difference is I have a S2S 250ml collapsable cup and a colghans salt/pepper shaker. Fits nicely in the bottom. Never had those arm-bending issues with the BRS stove yet but it’s something I’ll be cognizant of from now on.
