If you plant a tree in the ground in a container it will eventually die. Leave it like that with no annual root pruning it will eventually outgrow (foliage wise) its roots and will either die in the height of summer or will not make it through winter. Figs(plants) aren't a gimmick thing that you can treat however you want and still bask in their fruity glory. Roots equal fruits!!!! Stressing a tree like the fig may lead to few more figs one year (anything is possible) but what if your tree dies and you have to start over. Plant trees in the ground normal for long life and good harvest year after year. Nothinf against container gardeninf but this is a gimmick.
