Enjoyed watching this video. Hope that this orchid does well for you! Stay well.
That Peggy Ruth is a lot bigger then the one I have 😁 (maybe paracetamol can help for your arthritis it works wonders for me)
Margaret, I have stopped spraying the root systems with peroxide when I repot as well. If I suspect any possibility of snails I would but that is rare. I have found that I loose fewer roots in the long run. Sorry about your elbow. My hands have become stiff and fingers crooked so finer picking and pulling is more difficult.
I have an Aliceara Marfitch Renaissance Coral I won in a raffle that's in the peaty stuff and I was advised not to repot it until it was putting down roots from a new growth because it was in quite a poor condition. The first thing I did was to scrape the peat away from the pseudobulbs because it was pitted far too deep and there were faint signs of trouble brewing. I have been very careful watering it and have learned how much to trickle through it so that it dries in a week. It's doing well and the new growth looks strong but hasn't started roots yet. As things stand, I'm not in a rush to alter anything.
You could have saved yourself a lot of time by just putting them in a container of water and shaking the roots, all of the peat or coir would simply fall off. I'm not sure about what you've transferred them into, you might have been better off sort of layering with bark and strands of sphagnum. They'll probably dump their roots no matter what you do, though. I received a Paphiopedilum Dollgoldi potted in coco coir. I've just left it, the plant seems happy and I'm lax to disturb it because I want it to bloom (Ed says they are notoriously difficult to bloom as it is)
I just cringe when I see orchids in peatmoss unless they actually need to be in it such as terrestrials. Hope your elbow gets on the mend. Have you tried boswellia (frankincense) supplements for arthritis? It sure helps my arthritis, and it comes in capsules also.
Two more done, 3 more to go… Hope you are feeling better❤️
And now … off you grow 😃 hope you are feeling a bit better … bye bye aches and pains 🥊
great job, time consuming but worth it.🤷🏽♀️👍
