The development of CAMISTRADE was made possible by a number of partnerships between CAI, other Canadian software companies and MCC. MCC and CAI collaborated closely to develop the product for the desktop, mobile and server platforms. The relationship was based on MCC’s technical expertise, their customer base and the need for quality software. This was the first project to involve CAI and its partner company in the design, development and operation of software.
Autodesk purchased CAI in 1995 and took over the operations of Manufacturing Computer Corporation. In 1996, the product was re-named “AutoCAD” (a word taken from CAD without the “Computer-Aided” part, as CAD was not a major focus in the name).
The first version of AutoCAD to incorporate the Graphical User Interface (GUI), which was first introduced in 1983, was released in February 1984.
