  1. I loved the look and the pause after the ableist remark, said it all. I'm hoping you get some relief this year Kendra but glad you can still find ways to function and read. Yes to the cooking thing, my husband has a health issue we need to work with and cooking is definitely a big part of that. Happy belated new year!

  2. I suffer from migraines too. I'm glad you're getting help. No doctor has been able to tell me what causes them and hasnt tried much treatments. One doctor wanted me to continue taking a medication that didn't work. Why continue taking something that doesn't work? Makes absolutely no sense to me. So, I just deal with the migraines the best i can on my own.

  3. i found your channel in 2018 and i'm so glad i did!! <3 2018 was a terrible year for me too but im so glad to year you were able to work around stuff for your needs! <3 i hope 2019 is better for both of us [and everyone lol] !! <3

  4. I got a cooking book for my graduation present called afro-vegan that has a lot of recipes based on corn (and of course no dairy), I would recommend to check it out 🙂

  5. You are such a great person! A recipe you might like: Sweet potato beetroot salad. Cut sweet potato in blocks, cook for 5 min. Cut some onion and bake in a pan. Cut beetroots in blocks and just bake a bit in the same pan, if you buy precooked ones they only have to be heated up. Add the sweet potato and some canned lentils to the pan and heat up together. Put this on plates, add some lettuce of your choosing, I take lambs lettuce. Add a dressing of one part mustard, 2 parts white wine vinegar and 3 parts olive oil. You can also add fetta cheese and sunflower seeds if you like. You can take as much of the vegetables and lentils as you like. It's very simple but delicious and healthy.

  6. Wishing you a happy 2019 and hopefully that migraine goes away asap. I don't mind how you read a book, I just like hearing you talk about them. My sister has an invisible chronic pain condition so I feel for anyone struggling with an invisible condition or illness.

  7. I completely get where you’re coming from on feeling guilt about asking for needed accessibility changes. For me, I end up feeling shame like I’m making everything difficult for others or that I’m making something all about ME. I also get downright tired of pointing out issues so sometimes I just don’t and go without.

I’m going to join you in making 2019 the year where I try to let go of that guilt and shame and just ask for what I need! Good luck to both of us. 💜

  8. My husband gets migraines from reading too. Audible has been a big game changer for him. And we finally have shared books we both love! There’s nothing like being able to share a book you love with the person you love most! And thank you for sharing your experience with chronic pain and invisible illness. I have psoriatic arthritis, depression, and anxiety, and the more people share, the more it helps break down the feelings of isolation, promotes understanding, and hopefully, helps Ablist creeps realize they need to knock it off.

  9. This may sound really stupid, but do you have any suggestions for helping with concentration while listening to audiobooks? I have very poor eye sight. It’s more comfortable for me to listen to a story. However, my mind wanders a lot then I’ve missed important parts! Thanks Kendra! And thank you for sharing this video. It was very helpful to me!😘

  10. Ableist creeps are the worst and I love the term, I hope you don't mind if I steal it! I'm trying to come up with ten things for the Strange Bookish Facts tag and a rant about those hot takes has made it in, because GAH. (I have chronic pain in my elbows and wrists, and reading paper books can set it off.)
If you can get your hands on gluten-free soy sauce and miso (the paste, not the soup) I have some Japanese recipes you may enjoy! No pressure, let me know if you're interested – I'd love to pass them on. 😋
eta: And some of them are made for rice cookers! Throw fish, veg, and some seasonings in with the rice and hit the button – dinner in 45-ish minutes. 👍🏻

  11. Oh my goodnesses, that is horrendous. I occasionally get migraines, like once a month or twice a month. But as someone who has two invisible illnesses, i totally get that, it can be a struggle and i had to let go a lot.

  12. It has been eye opening to hear you talk about migraines and audiobooks on this channel. I have just started listening to audiobooks recently. Do you have any favorite narrators? My go-to gf/df meal is a stir-fry with rice. I put chopped kolbasa, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, and carrots in a wok and season with either italian or cajun spice. I don't know if that would work for you but I know how hard it is to find meal ideas with so many restrictions.

  13. I’m so sorry about your migraines! I’ve always had migraines, but they have become chronic for me in the last few years. They really suck. And it sucks that there isn’t always any way for someone to “see” the pain you’re going through. I’m not a big audiobook listener, but I will be doing more of that this year now that I’ve gotten Scribd. They have a lot of stuff on audio which is great because my library system is not the best.

  14. Thanks for all your GF help! I had a tamale scare today. First time I’ve eaten something without thinking about it first. Oops! Luckily, they were ok. Whew! I hope your brain lightens up in 2019. I have Becoming on Audible if you haven’t gotten it yet. I love it so much that I want to push it on everyone. 😂😂😂

  15. I get migraines as well but have never had one that lasted more than 2 days. Hoping you get some relief. I have found that because you look ok people that don't get migraines don't seem to understand how excruciating they are. I have had ones were I would have given anything to make the pain go away. People act like its just a minor nuisance that you should be able to push through… ummm no sometimes the pain for me is worse than childbirth.

  16. I have a friend who suffers from chronic migraines. When you talk about your experience, it helps me understand more what my friend is going through. I began captioning my videos about a month ago. I will certainly be continuing.

  17. It is so good that you promote audio books. Today you can be a reader with dyslexia through audio books. When I was growing up looooong time ago it was sadly not an option. I am glad you find ways to live with migraine and still enjoy and share your love for books.Thank you.
