What is the Endocannabinoid System? | Weed Easy

It’s a 600-million year old system that works with cannabis to get you high, but did you know that it’s also critical for ensuring your survival? What is the …

  1. I always appreciate increasing public education, especially in the cannabis industry considering how much poor quality information is being spread. However, this video provides an oversimplified interpretation that could lead to dangerous conclusions.
    example:
Video stated that endocannabinoids are released when something is "out of whack" with the cell and bind cannabinoid receptors so that they can respond accordingly. This can lead to the dangerous conclusion that cannabinoid receptor activation leads to positive outcomes for the body (and by simple extension, this could lead to thinking that THC binding to cannabinoid receptors would cause positive outcomes for the body, which we know is not completely true.)
THC does have many negative side effects that for some can be dangerous, and this kind of message would hide that.

I would advise it better to state that one of the ways that the body regulates pain, mood, inflammation, etc, is by releasing endocannabinoids when necessary. They would then bind the cannabinoid receptors to ensure that those systems stay in check. However, consuming cannabis would cause cannabinoid receptor binding in a way that is not endogenously regulated, which may have a variety of effects, some of which may be harmful.

I would also suggest you provide sources for your information in the video descriptions so that there is additional validation for the information you provide and so that people can do further reading if they want to.

The goal of this series is great, but atleast for this video in particular, it could have been executed better.

  2. I'm sure there is an audience for this, but maybe it's just not me. Do you have to be that pedantic on the simplest of concepts? I want my 4 mins back. This taught me nothing.

Did you even mention that endocannabinoids are pre-synaptic? I'm not re-watching it to find out. pretty important imo considering that most neurotransmitters and neuromodulators act post-synaptically. You could have explained more in a 4 minute window if you didn't do things like spend nearly an entire minute explaining homeostasis. Doesn't every system in our body maintain homeostasis? Isn't that kinda the point of biological systems?

For anyone else who came here looking for basic information on the functioning of the endocannabinoid system, I found this while browsing: http://headsup.scholastic.com/students/endocannabinoid

And for something more thorough: https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/neuroscience/endocannabinoid-system

  3. To find out what THC does all we need to do is look at our own pre existing cannabinoids and just imagine what a stronger effect would be like.
