I got what I think is tendonitis in my left index finger middle knuckle, I remember practicing Van Halens Ice cream Man solo with the big stretches and after a month or so, it started, months later, every time I play even light stuff, it hurts to play, I usually try to ignore but sometimes it turns me off playing.

Could not curl the finger properly and struggled to use that hand for carrying or fastening safety belts, let alone play guitar. Had this for a few weeks now. I only practiced 30 mins a day, but it could of been caused by some other activity. I don't know what the problem is yet but I'm going to see my doctor. Be careful not to assume it'a tendonitis because it could be something else, even Arthritis. As the video says, see your doctor. Look after your hands!

I have suffered and continued to play for a year at least through cortisone shots, therapy, ice, stretching, every special exercise that's supposed to cure it, wrist braces, posture braces. Im so depressed but have finally decided to stop playing and see what happens. Otherwise surgery and 3 months of recovery is my last hope

  12. Just realised the extra recent comments on here. Seriously guys, try collagen – it's about the best thing for tendonitis. It works in two ways: 1. pain-relief, almost instantaneous, and 2. healing; strengthening the collagen-matrix in your tendons. Collagen makes up most of the tendons and is hard to get in any decent amount from diet without supplementing it. Combine that with massage which signals anti-inflammatory cytokines and is also great for pain-relief. Up to 60, 70, possibly 90g a day during the healing process, and in 15g doses. 15 is optimal as a big recent study found it gives a bigger boost to the amino acids that help you heal and become stronger. The same study also showed a chart where those levels quickly rise and then reach the peak 1 hour after ingestion from normal levels, and gradually reduce after a further hour. So that 1 hour peak is when you should massage, and hit the stretching especially (if you're at that stage).

    Then when you're at a stage where stretching doesn't aggravate it, stretch for 5-10 mins a day, full-range of motion stretches. This will strengthen the tendons significantly beyond what they would normally otherwise be. And it's cumulative – after one year of stretching and combining with collagen (which gives a synergistic double-effect), you'll be MUCH stronger for it. I can do a lot more now than I ever could even before my 2-year long severe tendon injury that I thought I'd end up having surgery on.

  15. This has ruined my life. My plan was to be a guitar teacher. I have a music degree. Now I work in a phone shop. Are there any legit specialists for guitar tendinitis because ive come to the conclusion that the national health service in my country just don’t know how to fix it.
