I work in a vape shop in London for last few months, I get customers coming in buying batteries, then they leave and put thc carts on them. illegal here. I had an American come in a couple weeks ago wanting a battery, he started putting on a thc cart, I asked him if he had seen the news with people dying, he said he had but would do it if he wanted, I told him I wasn't telling him not to do it I just asking if he was aware of what had been happening. He was with a couple of his friends, well when they left the shop his mates were nun too happy that he was giving them THC from USA. So even when they know the risk they don't care.
Denormalising smoking worked in Australia. It was pushed hard back in the 90s and right now only about 13% of adults here smoke – probably aided by the fact that a pack of smokes cost $30-40. You really notice it when someone is smoking and boy does it stink. Never used to be like that.

The attempts to blame him are also not wholehearted (as in France and Germany) indicating they are just an attempt to influence the gullible that did not react to other lies properly. It does not surprise me at all. For some reason the most appalling were claim that I read last year in German media about the alleged increase of death rates for the migrants crossing the sea south of Europe. Looking closer I found out that the increase is not absolute but relative to the number of people getting across. So if the German NGOs manage to transport 100k across and 5k died in the same time period, this makes 5% death rate. If 10k tried while Salvini, this murderer who arrested most of the human traffickers fishing people out of the sea along Libyan shore then 1000 died, which makes 10% – terrible thing of course. What you see is the NGO ships go away the deaths go down. German media claimed the opposite of course – 5% is smaller than 10% right? RIGHT? These people despise us, the unwashed so much that they think we are stupid. In fact they are probably right, most of the Germans are actually believing this nonsense. I suppose that is normal. A bit sad but normal. It is mostly not worth it to get interested in all these things, waste time on research and then getting angry because we have been lied to again.

I had a lung scan about 1 year ago. I'd been vaping for about 5 years at that point. My lungs were crystal clear, no sign smoking let alone vaping!

Why are people ignoring the actual investigations that have already been conducted? Look up the Royal College of Nursing vaping studiesband what they found about two years ago. They said it was 95% less harmful, was not a gateway threat and encouraged the NHS to think about using it for smoking cessation therapy. Bans will not work, it will just create a black market and exacerbate the very problem they are supposed to be addressing.

But, it can be easily misused if the inherent noise in the estimation process is not known, or if the observations that the parameters are optimised off of push the limits of the efficiency for the statistic that is assumed to distribute the sample. For example, many structural zeros in a sample of observations stress the efficiency of Chi^2 optimised parameters. Researcher must avoid structural zeros, pool categories (which is a loss of information acuity), or change the study's design for gathering observations. You can do a lot of measures to manage confidence.
