local weather is a common source of uncertainty during the analysis and assessment of wind resources. a site assessment or wind model should be used in conjunction with local weather forecasts. typical weather conditions at the site will provide a lower bound estimate, while the forecast may provide an upper bound estimate. local weather conditions at two or more locations should be compared in order to estimate the most probable, or most likely, weather conditions. once estimates are made, these should be compared to the lowest and highest probable conditions to verify that uncertainty is kept to a minimum. it is essential to assess the wind resource during a period of low wind conditions in the forecast. your site could be negatively affected by strong winds from a storm or other natural phenomenon that is only expected to affect an area during a low-wind period.
