amputee heroes is a series of online videos on the nfl player’s website that allows current and former nfl players to share their stories, share tips on how to lead a healthy lifestyle and give back to their communities.

six-time super bowl champion and one of the most accomplished athletes of his generation, ray lewis, is once again using his platform as an nfl linebacker to raise awareness and encourage action to end violence against women and children in his hometown of baltimore. in partnership with the hall of justice in baltimore, the nfl amputee heroes program is hosting a special celebration for the baltimore ravens including a special video message from the nfl’s leading voice for women’s empowerment, dez bryant. this event will take place on july 31 at the hall of justice in baltimore, maryland.

and this is the story of landis sims – a 15-year old kid who lost his hands and feet at birth, but who never let that stop him from dreaming about his favorite hobby – playing baseball. from his father, who is a police officer, to his tough coaches and teammates, to his equally determined mom and dad, who are his biggest supporters, landis makes an amazing comeback. but it isnt easy when you have no hands and no feet and no limits. watching landis makes you want to take a step away from the sidelines and face your own challenges.

today, landis is an amputee with a big dream. he wants to play baseball and represent the yankees, his favorite team. he is a baseball player who uses his prosthetics as an extension of his body. his goal is to be the best baseball player he can be. he wants to make his high school baseball team and maybe someday, he says, he wants to be like major league baseball superstar derek jeter. he wants to play for his favorite team, and he wants to get an opportunity to step into the batter’s box and be the first man up on the mound, just like derek jeter. on may 21, 2012, landis threw out the first pitch of a yankees game at yankee stadium, and he has been invited back for the 2013 season.
landis is a student of the game who lives and breathes baseball. on the field, he spends countless hours studying his opponents. landis hopes that his story will inspire other amputees who dream of playing professional sports. landis has taken a year off from high school to focus on baseball. he is able to use his prosthetics well enough to be a pitcher and a batter. he is hitting.400 and has a 1.80 era. he wants to make the baseball team at chaney high school in west virginia.
greg griffin, a below-knee amputee from johnston city, tn was at a visit with his prosthetist when he was surprised via zoom by three 100%-sponsored, professional motocross riders: aaron plessinger, marvin musquin and cooper webb. greg lost his leg due to a motorcycle accident in 2013 however, that hasnt steered him away from doing what he loves. he still loves riding motorcycles, hiking, running and being active. caf, ssur and gregs prosthetist, dave smith from victory orthotics & prosthetics have partnered to present him with his first running leg an ssur cheetah xplore sports foot. through shared sponsor, 100% and a generous ssur grant, greg will get back to riding motocross again soon. watch greg griffin’s surprise moment.
