ah, the police station building plugin. this was my first useful mod for simcity 4. i added it to one of my early cities, and it has only continued to grow over time. i use it mainly for one main reason. unlike some other simcity 4 plugins, the pssb plugin doesn’t directly affect the game. you can add it, and it will simply sit there. this is a very useful plugin to have because it allows you to create very quickly large metropolitan cities. it also allows you to change the building paths a bit, improving the realism of the cities.
the yacht plugin allows you to add a larger-than-life cruise liner to your cities. this is a great feature for cities that need to be large, yet also have an attractive downtown area. for example, if you need to build a large metropolis on an island, you can use this plugin to create a city that will naturally be large, and still feel like one of the larger ones. you can also have multiple yachts if you want. however, because the yachts are floating, they tend to sink if you don’t build a sufficient foundation or if the anchor plug isn’t attached.
this is a great plugin because it allows you to put the matching boxes in the air by using the multi air balloon plugin. i personally prefer this method over the classic floating buildings method. the multi air balloon functionality also allows you to customize which air balloon your in-city traffic uses.
in version 22, the july 2007 release, aqmax was integrated with the nam for the first time, and higher priority priorities for many new nam plugins were set, while later being overridden by more user-requested priorities. this was done in part to reduce the effect of the issues that had occurred in aqua version 20, in combination with previous nam and aqua core mod work that had also been done. version 22 also marked the introduction of the nam pickup ladder, nam launder, and nam hanger.
even if you’re not looking to build a massively complex city, there’s tons of little items in the mod to enhance your experience, and everything i’ve played with is not only functional but blends perfectly into the look of the game. and, as you can see, even a decade later, the game itself still looks fantastic. i’ve heard from a few sources that simcity 4 doesn’t run that well on newer systems, but on windows 7 i didn’t experience any crashes, even with the mod installed.
while the mod does have many limitations, it’s still an amazing achievement. it’s truly one of the most well-rounded mods i’ve played with. if you’re a simcity fan who’s curious about what’s possible in the series, i highly recommend checking it out. it’s a pretty good amount of content for free.
the nam mod also includes an entire neighborhood’s worth of plugins. the high speed rail plugin modernizes your city with both ground-based and elevated bullet trains, and provides several stations to choose from, including a massive multipurpose station that includes bus and regular rail service.
after extensive testing, i am happy to announce that the original nam now uses the rul files that simcity 4 deluxe 1.6: editor pack 1 and 1.6: world designer pack 1 includes, with the exception of the redwood tree plugin. the latter is still the original rul file, but has not yet been compiled into the rul files. i do not have the time to compile the redwood tree plugin into the rul files, so that it will be compatible with the nam. i do not know when it will be finished, so, if you are a redwood tree fan, you will have to wait. i apologize for this inconvenience, but i really do not have the time to fix this issue at this time, and i cannot release an incomplete update. if you are not a redwood tree fan, you will be able to still download the original rul file, and when it is finished, i will be more than happy to release the redwood tree plugin into the nam.
