Advice to Ethnic Chinese: TIME TO UNITE means CHOOSING SIDES
To avoid backlash and suspicion, ethnic Chinese will need to join the effort to contain then dismantle the CCP influence.
Ethnic Chinese are in the middle of a global tug of war for hearts, minds and ways of life, and will have to choose sides. Which side have you chosen: (a) corrupt, totalitarian Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its social credit security state, or (b) messy but free multicultural democracy?
Because of your heritage and appearance, many people around the world will assume ethnic Chinese have chosen (a) unless you clearly, consistently and publicly denounce CCP and support (b) in words AND deeds. This is human nature in time of crisis. Ugly and frightening, but true as I see it.
The world will not be kind or compassionate to any who collude or even sit passively by in these difficult times. But there is solace. The choice is actually simple. The CCP is not traditional Chinese culture. It has co-opted elements of it in order to maintain power, but it is the greatest threat to your culture. CCP is intolerance made flesh. People fear the way it treats its citizens and especially non-Chinese. Unkind to peaceful Tibet, and to religious faith (Muslims, Falun Gon), spying, theft, undermining other nations' institutions, bribery, corruption, intimidation of critics, and now the CCP wetmarket virus. Arrogance and lack of contrition by CCP at this time is inflaming the situation.
As bodies pile up, the world can no longer ignore the stinking elephant in the corner. The world is waking up to CCP, and for years to come there will be no stopping the waves of disapproval and anger. The CCP wetmarket virus has opened our eyes.
If ethinic Chinese around the world want to be treated with kindness, tolerance and compassion, they will need to demonstrate that they oppose the evil CCP. This will help the world learn that CCP is not the same as China.
Americans of Japanese ancestry (AJAs) were in this same situation at the outbreak of WWII, when the Imperial Japan military attacked Pearl Harbor. AJAs were even segregated into camps. Their sons and daughters were forced, by circumstance, to choose sides. Was it fair? No. But that is the way of men in times of crisis.
AJAs enlisted in the US military, fought fiercly against imperial Japan, and gained great honor and respect. Their patriotism and sacrifice is legendary. Their children, and Japan itself, have prospered in the wake of those times. May the same happen to China, but hopefully without a great war.
Chinese around the world may find themselves stuck in the middle, and forced by circumstance to choose – in both words and deeds – either (a) or (b).
Ah, to live in times of great meaning, a burden and a blessing for us all. Let us unite on the right side of history.
