# Quick Tricks
There are a lot of ways to do stuff in Photoshop. These shortcuts save time when you’re working with the interface and are good to know because you might not have all the options open on your toolbar.
* For a direct shortcut to zoom, use Ctrl+ plus or Ctrl+minus: Alt+plus or Alt+minus to zoom in or out.

The Photoshop Layers and Masks
Photoshop has a “non-destructive” system and allows users to work on images without losing or damaging the original.
Each layer is a separate image placed over a transparent layer, and allows users to edit or layer several pictures with the same effect. In the layer panels is the Layers panel, which allows users to manage the layers. You can add, duplicate, move, delete, hide, and show the layers.
If a layer is hidden, it cannot be seen in the preview. It can still be seen in the Layers panel.
Layer Masks
A layer mask is used to have control over the transparency of a particular layer. A layer mask has four functions. They are:
Convert the transparency of a layer to a layer mask
Convert a layer mask to a transparency
Hide a layer mask, making it transparent
Show a layer mask, converting it to its real transparency
Layer masks are extremely useful for building web icons and for adding a custom feel to any image.
After the image is created, the file has already been loaded, create a new transparent layer and drag the image onto it. The image will now be part of the new layer.

Add the image you want to mask onto a new transparent layer by dragging the photo onto the new layer.
Now create a layer mask. This is done with the Layers panel and selecting Layer Mask, this will add a selection box around the layer mask. Now drag the selection box over the image to make it transparent. This makes the image transparent where the selected box is.

NC State Governors Receive National Football Hall of Fame Commendation
As part of a series of recognition ceremonies taking place at the Hall of Fame’s Eighth Annual Meeting in Canton, Ohio, November 15-19, the names of 15 individuals were announced Wednesday as having been selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
At the occasion, NC State Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger presented the Commendation on behalf of the State of North Carolina.
They were joined by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Hall of Fame President Dr. Anderson of the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the ceremony, which featured remarks by Cooper, Berger and Commissioner Goodell.
Governor Cooper said: “I am honored that Governor Kay Stephenson selected a group of our fellow NC State alumni for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2019. We are grateful to them, the NFL Commissioner and the Pro Football Hall of Fame for this remarkable recognition.”
Pro Football Hall of Fame President Dr. Anderson said: “We are thrilled to acknowledge and honor these remarkable accomplishments. Their contributions to the success of the State of North Carolina and our Nation cannot be overstated.”
NC State President Brody Kellogg said: “The College Football Hall of Fame is truly the flagship program of our university and its support of our alumni is commendable.
