Freeze dryers are best known for the fun food items they can be used to make like astronaut icecream, but they’re actually really useful tools. From ideal sample …
I know Im a little late to the party, but here was my thought, from what I can find online, data indicates you want the cold trap 15-20c below the freezing point of the sample. I guess question A) is that freezing point at atm, or our vacuum? B) even if freezing point at atm (32F/0C) 15-20c below would be -4F to +5F – a home freezer is typically 0F. Think it would work? I can get cheap freezers all day, run the sample jar in the fridge, cold trap in the freezer? Edit to add detail I think Ive also read that for freeze drying hash (what half u I kno are here for too lol) the ideal sample temp is around 45-48F, so thats why I had the fridge idea, well within the range you can set a fridge temp to. Then you add a small heating pad under the sample jar you can turn on and off from outside to raise jar temp.
You'd get a better vacuum with shorter lines.
How do you know how long to freeze dry the fruit to?
i was looking for Harvest Right, then i find this video. thank u, sir.. i will try to make one . thank u.
can an aluminum pressure cooker be used instead of the stainless steel chambers?
Thats perfect size
Ive had the astronuat icecream but iwanttolearn howto freeze dry my cannabis a machine is thousands of dollars and id like to just build a smallnone for my personal medicine
Could you use a mini fridge?
Are you Canadian?
Harvest Right //
this guy has never sliced a strawberry before
Spray adhesive would have melted you polystyrene
Super intrested to build one but… I gotta ask Is this safe ?
Aerogel is not made by freeze dry. It is made by making use properties of supercritical fluid.
A/C accumulator w fittings A/C oil A/C condenser HD vacuum pump Vacuum pump fitting & sealant Temp gauge Put condenser into container & seal holes, Fill w enough oil to fill condenser, Attach both lines of condenser to accumulator, Attach vacuum fitting, Apply vacuum until reaches preferred temp, Freeze w/e for however long
The end
I’m so lazy I’m willing to pay you to build me one… thx
Yeah OK I’ll run out and get one today. Hope you have a diagram for all this?
Where do you get dry ice from as I live in France and no such thing unless there is a special shop that I do not know about.
Would An a/c vacuum pump work ? I can typically get a a/c system down t ok 28 or 29hg
Can U eat the food
Hi, Bro. This is so helpful, but the links were didn't work. Can you help?
I would like to get a parts list from you and diagram on how to build this
That’s amazing. Could you please estimate how much time and cost would it take to prepare specified amount (100 grams for example) of fruit like strawberries and other food that you tried it with?
How much would this project ?
….umm it would just be easier to buy a freeze dryer. I'm like 😳 wtf halfway in….
If you'd break it down it'd help me. There has to be a tight sealed container for the food right? Then a powerful vacuum pump. Then you have something to do with dry ice and I'm lost.
With this setup how much product can you freezedry in one run
Thought: your container has to much air space?….fill with stones or metal plates
02:25 The diagram says what you need less than 100 pascals at 250K, so why you said what we need ~13 pascals (100torr)
Well done uploader, a lot of Americans moan about living paycheck to paycheck, but have no problem spending 2000 on a harvestright ! They are way too expensive which is why they cant be more popular than dehydrating.
The background music in the begging sounds like the weeknd-in your eyes to me for some reason
I wonder if the $150 hobo freight 2-stage 3 cfm could pull 27 inhg. What area of the graph 2:54 are you targeting?
Awesome video thx😄
Tool suggestion. For drilling nice round holes in things, particularly plastics. Try a step bit, I find you get rounder holes and have much less deburring to do. https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=step%20bit
Im not understand why frozen condensation camera is required, why just single vacuum chamber not works? vapour have only one direction flow.
I accidentally freeze-dried food in my freezer once. That really shouldn't have been possible lol. Sometimes when it gets insanely cold out here (like -30F and under) I wonder if I can actually freeze dry stuff outside. This is really neat. 😀

@2:50 did you mean to say 100 microbar?
