Of course the politicians didn't listen. They caved to the hysteria of the time in the 1930s. BTW, the US government, through the FDA and DEA, have been growing it at the University of Mississippi since the 1970s for pain relief. They process it into cigarettes and mail it to patients through the US Mail. Yet they claim that it has no medical benefits. You might want to mention that interesting fact to the UN next time you speak to them.
