at the time of the holy prophet’s (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) death, hadrat imam ahmad ibn hanbal (radi allahu anhu) said to hadrat sayyiduna malik bin anas (radi allahu anhu) : “what is the durood shareef that is mentioned in the holy quran? ” malik bin anas (radi allahu anhu) replied “durood-e-tunajjina” and hadrat imam ahmad ibn hanbal (radi allahu anhu) said “oh allah! you will never change your status until your slaves have performed the durood shareef in your cause”.
hadrat imam ahmad ibn hanbal (radi allahu anhu) said that every time someone recites the above durood shareef, allah says: “o allah! o allah! o allah! o allah! o allah! o allah! o allah! oh allah! oh allah!”
we have to recite durood whenever we do not have any money to offer in charity, because durood shareef is the source of charity. if you spend money on others, allah will give it to you in abundance. what if you are in need of the holy prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) – then just say durood-e-sadaqah.
the holy prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said: durood-e-sadaqah is deen (religion) of a person who has only one sheep and does not own even a mite of land. it is also said that durood-e-sadaqah is the din (religion) of the person who has nothing to give in charity except his mouth and does not have any alms to give to others.durood-e-sadaqah signifies pure conduct and is the religion of the person who has no fame and no family; who has no money or property. it is also said that whoever does not have enough alms or a person who does not own even a mite of property, may use this durood. it is said that he will be forgiven for all of his sins and he will have a place in paradise.
