Diversity vs. Stability in Cannabis Seeds, Breeding and Genetics

there is not a true breeding cannabis seed when you compare it to a major agricultural crop such as corn. you can plant 10 acres of corn without much genetic …

  1. 19:50 i like how right after down talking another grower, he slips up and says having all female plants is the worst lol. Instant karma at its finest. Im sure that other grower who made the post had a brain fart just like him. An old time grower once told me, "it doesnt matter how big you get, mother natures bigger" stay humble.

  2. The original stable crosses that I grew in the 80,s and 90,s have been crossed with early maturing stains. This did nothing to improve quality but it shortened to flowering time. There is a Bible of growing Cannabis that explains how to grow stable hybrids. Back crossing to establish a stable hybrid and more. No one mentions Delta 4 , 6 and Delta 9 THC. What about THCV? How about CBA CBN , CBG ? Read Marijuana Botany.

  3. Dude!! 1st rule of interviews…to hear what is going on! Please keep the microphone close to your mouth! Also the person being interviewed controlled the interview, not the interviewer.lol

  4. People always want to stabilize their special find in seed form. Using music as an analogy, a lot of strains are like a note in a chord that is the whole package. Perhaps breeding for stability should focus on creating a great note and not a whole chord. Keeping in mind some other chord you’ll want to make with it later. Or, don’t just try to breed 1 line from your new cross, but many. And this should include having the same work done with cloning at a different location from the equator to influence the expression of the genotype with the environment? To isolate the different notes for the final composition.

Don’t know a thing about this business. Just that corn breeders would often do an F1 from a cross like (A X B) x (A X C) to get more frequent phenotypes of corn A, but still get the hybrid vigor. The production seeds.

  5. Landrace cannabis is not feral cannabis. Landrace cannabis has been selected for various qualities by growers for centuries. Not 'selected by nature'. Growers who should be compensated for their Intellectual Property (IP).

  6. sorry when you said there in no true breeding strain you are wrong … Abducted 1399 is ….just because the strain has not been made public from when it was found in 1969 that dose not mean it was like the rest of the greed growers and breeders that destroy the genetic pole … Abducted 1399 is the most stable and strong IBL OLR on the face of the Earth …..when someone like Humboldt comes out and says something like this , I know why don't release the strain to the market .. the market don't need rare strains they are to fast to take the path of the mighty buck …. latter

  7. In my experience , heat is critical in Hermaphrodite equation. My grows in fall and winter never show male but when temperatures and humidity change stamens can appear. As much as the seeds reduced harvest. I have hundreds of seeds to flower for years. Not worth breeding thou..

  8. I think that having both levels of breeders is a good thing. Both who make a cross and release an "F1" and those that do multiple grows to stabilize phenotype variation before even thinking about a possible release. Almost Dutch versus US breeding. Most decent US breeders aren't even growing out 100 plants of their new "cross" but release it to customers who find the benefit of the pheno variation of it compared to consumers of a very stable genetic in a hydro Dutch farm that just want to dial in on a fast 52 day flower indica that is still selling in coffeeshops. 2 different mindsets (many others of course) to consider when thinking about seed buyers.

  9. The side effects of smoking a hermit plant is you will become a transgender as well so keep that in mind when breeding. :). Don't smoke that hermit stuff if you want to remain straight

  10. Ive grown bagseed that is exactly what theyre talking about. Its always been the second type of hermaphrodite where stress creates it. The weed is still strong as hell of the varieties you got them from though the buds tend to get weird shapes. My fav was a Congo strain, took 12-13 weeks to finish, long sativa buds. But yea, best if the plants don't hermie at all. Free seeds is one thing but lots of breeders are super amateurish when it comes to this and don't offer recompense when you show them all 3 seeds/plants turning hermie while your other strains are fine.

  11. Our crops were always homogeneous and strain specific; bagseed from the classic imports. Grown in commons plots, so rhizodeposits/exudates were shared between individual plants. I think that's why modern Cannabis lines are "diverse", each plant has a different exudate profile contained to a seperate pot, just like it's parentage, that attracted a different microbial population. The only commonality is the microbial roster the plant has to choose from, which is why you can always tell what farm a crop comes from, regardless of strain. Because everyone grows 50 strains in identical soil, identical teas, identical ferments, identical rooms.

I bet there's no garlic growers trying to grow 50 different strains.. Its another plant who's phenotype is heavily dictated by the microbial demographic. Each farm/soil is its own pheno. Cannabis was better when people grew their own crop, not 50 hot strains from some totally different grow.
