Most cases dont even go to trial, they intimidate the person til they either confess or plead guilty. Very few get a fair trial and due to DA offices hiding evidence, getting evidence thrown out and the jury not hearing certain things that could have prevented an injustice. The state rarely loses cases, you have to ask yourself, why and how? The system has failed too many.
