the shieldbreaker is the epitome of mobility in dungeons. she is able to move almost any distance on the level, though her clear speed isn’t the fastest, and is good at both pushing and pulling. she can travel in any direction and at any time, and is generally considered the most evasive hero in the game. she’s also usually very effective at combat, being able to attack most enemy heroes in the game. the shieldbreaker’s high defense and evasion mean that she rarely ever gets hit, and even if she does get hit, it’s usually only one point of damage. the shieldbreaker is the only hero in the game that has a ranged attack; she can use her bow to attack from further away, which is useful in tight spaces. for all of these reasons, the shieldbreaker is considered by many to be the definitive melee-oriented hero in the game.
the shieldbreaker has a much higher accuracy rate than the average adventurer, due to her high evasion, and the game will usually scale down her accuracy into a close-to-perfect one. this is an important distinction to make because accuracy doesn’t affect damage, and so it is far more important to have a high evasion than a high accuracy. this is important because every point of evasion equals two points of accuracy, and accuracy rates also have diminishing returns. a 30% evasion rating is much more useful than a 50% accuracy rating.
while her accuracy is good, and she is super hard to hit, the shieldbreaker has the worst accuracy modifiers in the game. this is because her experience is shared by her bow and her arrows, and so her arrows are actually a lot less accurate than the average adventurer’s. for instance, with a 50% accuracy modifier, her arrows have a 25% chance to hit, and even with two modifiers it’s only a 50% chance. this is why she is considered to be one of the best ranged heroes in the game.
the shieldbreaker’s skills are a little limited, but her attacks are still powerful. a lot of the skills are melee-based, because her shield works best as a melee weapon, and is a good weapon for blocking incoming attacks. one of the few skills that is not a melee attack is “wear down” which does a small amount of damage to the target and increases the duration of the shieldbreaker’s aegis. this skill is useful for strengthening the shieldbreaker’s shield.
the shieldbreaker’s shields are very useful as an allied, but mostly as a defender. the shieldbreaker’s aegis is a shield that is initially set up on the character when she joins the battle. it has a block value that can be increased through leveling up. once the shield is set up, the shieldbreaker can equip another shield on top of it. this shield absorbs damage, but will also block, but only for the first two hits of the attack.
the shieldbreaker also has access to a few useful, low-cost skills. as mentioned, the shock skill allows her to deal a little damage when she picks up monsters, and she can use her lightning-based skills at up to full charge, even if her party is under attack. finally, she can use her aforementioned impale skill to remove the plague buff from incoming monsters.
the shieldbreaker’s abilities are all fairly high-priority skills, with a few minor exceptions. the first is the shieldbreaker’s horror (s) skill, which is a very strong skill. it reduces monster health by half and applies a debuff that reduces incoming damage by half for the next 3 turns. in addition to these buffs, shieldbreaker’s horror grants a bonus to defense and a -5% defense penalty to monsters. it can be used on a full charge to take down a monster in two turns.
