A second BJP legislator has been booked for alleged rape of a Dalit girl, 12, in Bihar, and three of her friends have been arrested, police said on Saturday.
“The accused legislator, the main accused of the rape, has been booked under relevant IPC sections for murder, the crime of “raka,” forcible sexual assault and kidnapping,” said Shreeram Agrawal, the superintendent of police (SP) of Birsa, where the incident took place.
Police officials said the accused legislator had held a party with his associates in Birsa town, 50 km from state capital Patna, on October 27.
“He raped the victim before and after his associates held him a party,” an official familiar with the matter said.
The victim and her three friends, all aged 13 to 14 years, were on their way to the market when the incident happened. They told police that they were assaulted by the legislator and his associates, the SP said.
The accused legislator was a close friend of the victim and her family, Agrawal said.
“They were also in touch with each other on social media,” he said.
The victim was sent to a hospital for examination and an FIR was lodged on Thursday, police said.
Three of her friends have been arrested and sent to Birsa district jail, the SP said.
A video clip of the victim being assaulted was circulated on WhatsApp in the village on Friday morning, triggering outrage.
“We have also seized the mobile phones of the accused legislator and his associates,” the SP said.
Another member of the BJP’s youth wing, 20-year-old Amiya alias Raju, was also arrested, the SP said.
