  1. Thanksgiving cactus generally require cool temps to set buds. I leave mine outside until bids are set and bring them inside before the temperature drops below 40 degrees.

  3. I love your top five plant for the month of November, they are all so beautiful, that cactus sure is amazing. I don't have any Alocasia, I just feel like I don't have the right conditions for them even though they are so beautiful. I have the Aglaonema Red Siam and it is big like yours, I got it on clearance at Lowe's, Mine sits away from an east facing window, and blooms every once in awhile, but I don't like the blooms and I cut them off so the plant doesn't waste it's energy on the bloom. Mine seems to like it's location and puts off a ton of new growth, I don't mist mine because it sits close to where my humidifier is. Wow your Looking glass Begonia is amazing, it really is happy in your home, I have two angel wing Begonias and they struggled at first but now they are doing fine, not anywhere as large as yours, but still pretty happy. Wish that I had a window in my bathroom, I would have many plants in there. I also have a juvenile Monstera Deliciosa, that has two splits and a ton of tiny solid leaves, I love it and can't wait for it to get bigger, it is a super easy one to grow. Your Thanksgiving cactus is the kind that has the appearance of drooping, some of them stand more upright and some droop. I have 7 both the Thanksgiving and the Christmas ones and also an Easter one, like I mentioned some of mine droop and some stand more upright, and I do have mine in a north facing window, and some in an east facing window. I think all of your plants are so pretty, and you are a good plant mama. Thanks Keely Joy, have a great day, bye for now.

  4. Hi Keely, It is my experience that Thanksgiving cactus can be fickle and no blooming just happens (or doesn't happen!). I was given starter Thanksgiving cactus in the fall and they are currently blooming, they are very short leaves. On the other hand, I propagated nice long leaves from my mother in law's ancient plant and the smaller pot (given to my daughter) has zero flowers. The mother plant is blooming for the FIRST time since repot last fall. She was a very VERY neglected plant so I surmised that was the problem. Who knows! Don't give up on your cactus! You will be victorious!!! Nice selection of favorites!

  5. wow! that begonia is fabulous! Thanks for sharing all the beautiful plants. Hope your thanksgiving was wonderful! What did you do for thanksgiving? Did you cook? Let me know. Pam from Colorado

  6. Wow your Begonia is stunning looking and so different from when you bought it, you've done an amazing job of taking care of it. Love these videos, please continue to do them.

  7. I just picked up a domino cactus and that same aglaonema! Great minds think alike I guess. <3 *sidenote has anyone ever told you that you kinda look like one of the beautiful women from a Robert Palmer video?

  8. That Begonia is amazing but Monsteras hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for sharing your top 5 with us Keely, I hope you're been having an awesome Thanksgiving. Thumbs Up!!!

  9. I have several holiday cacti. They like to dry out and they like bright light. A cooling period at night, such as near a cool window, will often encourage it to bloom.

  10. The begonia!!! I copied a tip from a lady in a plant group to get my Thanksgiving cactus to bloom. And even though it has not actually bloomed yet, its loaded with buds. She suggested keeping it oitside all summer and bringing in in fall and once…let me check my memo, hold on….okay I'm back. Here is a copy of her suggestion. These are her words and even though its for a Christmas cactus, its working for my Thanksgiving cactus…I have an antique buffet with the perfect size cabinet to give mine complete darkness as she suggested and it was convient.

    Notes on Christmas Cactus:
…outside in the summer in a shady spot. Water, feed and propagate during this time. They need the heat to thicken up the stalks to make them strong enough to hold the beautiful flowers. In October back off on watering. Bring her inside by a bright window. This is where it gets tricky. As soon as I get home from work I put her in a completely dark closet. Around 5-6 pm. In and out of the closet for about a month. This helps to trigger buds later. They need less hours of light. Also they will not flower until they reach a 50 degree temp. That’s causes the plant to flower. Once it flowers I barely water during that time and bring it inside to enjoy it. I don’t move it at all until the summer again. Then back outside she goes. She’s outside now and I repotted her since I live in Florida and it’s hot right now.

  11. Wow, that Begonia is AMAZING!!!!! I bought 2 from Steve's Leaves that are growing great also, I hope mine gets like yours, I have them in a south window that has lace curtains.

  12. Beautiful plants! Your Thanksgiving cactus isn’t sad but what seems to really bring them into bloom is cooler temperatures and shorter length days. You may have a struggle finding a place where you can get some noticeably cooler temps for a good month anyway to set off the bloom cycle. Right now I’m anticipating the blooming of my true Christmas cactus. It’s been in my husbands family for a very long time. The buds are still small but they’re growing!! I guess this is one situation where living in Ohio has it’s advantages over your normally awesome climate. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃

  13. LOVE LOVE LOVE your Begonia! fyi, your thanksgiving cactus has to have complete blackout darkness every day for around 14 hours, cool cool temps and very reduced watering for 6 weeks. ideally, you start that process in late Sept.

  14. Your plants are amazing! The Alocasia looks like a different plant from the original. That Monstera is gorgeous! I can go on and on, but I won't. You have a green thumb for sure!

  15. Keely, you have such beautiful plants! I love these "Top 5 Plants" of the month! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! Happy Holidays to you and your family!
