Start on the Water: Way, way too much water. I’m not sure why the developers wanted to make three different stages of this scenario, because the game is so annoying that one is enough. Instead of three stages, imagine having an expo where the main goal is to get from one stage to another. You would need no different ideas, and if you went into the game and it just told you to do all this annoying stuff, you’d get very pissed off.
The fact that you can’t even move is an insult to the development team. It’s like they just forget that they spent a lot of money on making this video game. The team must be thinking, “Achievement unlocked! The Sadist Video Game Devs Scored the Ultimate Paying Customer!”
Then you find out that you can only back out and not really do anything to help yourself. So now what? There’s no where to run and no door to leave. Your only option is to deal with the water.
And dealing with the water is something that feels like you’re being punished for playing the game. Sure it’ll be fun, but dammit I’m not having fun playing this.
So… I just slog my way through every single stage just to see when the game will end.
The system that allows you to fix problems is ingenious, but the thing that really started the whole controversy was the infinite save system. The developers decided that they didn’t like saving after every single hurdle or obstacle, and so they decided to use the save as many times as you need to get to a certain point, with no limit on the number of saves you can do.
Think about this. In my opinion, this is utter savagery. No one should be forced to play a game that makes them save so often, when they can just go back to a previous save if they have to.
They created a game that had the system that no one wanted, so the team just decided to throw out all their good ideas and just do what they wanted to do.
And they’re charging five hundred dollars for a super-unrewarding experience that has them forcing you to save every five minutes. How can that be worth the price tag?
The team at Next Level Games are the type of people who have a hard time coming up with an “OK, let’s stop now.” And then they fail to do it.
