The Commodore 64 is a 16-bit personal computer developed by Commodore International and first released on October 16, 1982. It was Commodore’s flagship computer (and the best-selling computer ever) until the launch of the Amiga and at the time of its manufacture, the highest selling home computer of all time.
The C64’s ROMs were sold in cartridges, with a replacement cartridge usually available for $2, though extensive use and abuse often caused the official replacement cartridges to lose their ability to boot and could even render the computer completely unbootable.
