A mother's dire warning on vaping: 'I was terrified for my son'
When 18-year-old Adam Hergenreder became violently ill, his doctors were quick to identify vaping as the likely culprit. Now his mother is warning others.

Another frivolous lawsuit instead of taking responsibility for vaping black market THC. Maybe you should have stuck to the products that are regulated.
I think people should realize that vaping is a process, and what is vaped is different, it's the substance vaped. Banning vaping because it's possible to vape rat poison and get sick or die is like banning barbeques because it's possible to get contaminated meat, or a bad bottle of barbeque sauce and get sick. The only real way to resolve the problem is to properly identify the root cause of the illnesses – which no one has done yet. No one wants to ban cars because 50k people die every year from driving like jerks. And the benefits of vaping are being tossed out the window by fear mongering. Sure, vaping my not be 100% safe, but it's a heck of a lot safer than smoking, and has the upside of saving a lot of lives of people that switch to vaping from smoking. Public health officials know this, and smart ones promote vaping if it means stopping smoking. They don't recommend vaping motor oil or drain cleaner, though. Most people are so easily manipulated it's scary. I'm sorry for the mom's grief, but let's be a little more reasonable here and not try to foist blame on the blameless rather than taking responsibility for her son's own actions – not that he really knew – I'd place most of the blame at the feet of the makers of the bootleg vaping products, not Juul.
So glad to see that Adam pulled through this and is doing better. Also glad to hear that Adam admitted to using illicit THC carts prior to the onset of the acute lung injury. It seems obvious, after the two years of consistent Juul use without any negative health impacts, this event was not caused by nicotine vaping. I think you have an uphill battle trying to prove in court, that no teen like Adam would ever use illicit drugs if they had not previously used a Juul, There is a vast amount of evidence proving teens have always experimented with illegal substances. I hope Adam accepts responsibility for this poor decision that nearly took his life and works to spread the word about the level of risks surrounding the use of illicit drugs bought on the street. to date there are over 1000 cases similar to Adams reported in the US, directly tied to these illicit, black market THC vape pens and pods.
