DON'T WORRY everyone I'll be drilling holes…take a deep breath 🙂
So what percentage of cactus & potting mix did you use? I’ve used the 5-1-1 mix. Your recommendation is a lot easier to make.
Do these practices also apply to eureka lemons that are planted in a terracotta colored plastic pot? Also, I'm in northeastern Nevada
I recently bought a citrus all in one: hamlin orange, meyer lemon and lime. Would this still be ok to be in a pot or does it have to be in a ground? I live on the east coast of FL
I love lemons so this is perfect!
I've seen a few shows but never seen your garden.
Can anyone help me solve why I can't grow my lemon and line trees to save my life? They came in 15 gallon transplants for $40 from my nursery, I've had them for 2 years in pots and I just now have baby limes, but the leaves look yellow and the plant, kinda listless, I put them lemon tree in a nice 25-30 gallon pottery style pot and no flowers, no baby lemons and the leaves are also yellow. Neither one is dying, just not improving? I water every 1-2 days based on my water meter. Maybe I should put them in the ground? I'm in zone 9 FYI. Thanks guys
They won't grow in the North East ! Don't even try ! Only Calif. or Fla. ! They need lots of sunlight and warm weather !
How long will it be before you have to repot please?
i have that same cactus soil, but instead i used regular potting soil, and a mix of some water absorbing crystals and perlite. should i replace the soil ?
i really appreciate you and your tips. i am in north county, i would like to hear about berries if you have anything to say about that. also, again with the "rule of thumb" horrible choice in words.
Thank you for sharing your idea
I got my lemon tree when I was 12 years old 1996. I pot it in a 25 gal clay pot. it still with me dropping lemons in 2020….
Had to come back to this video to prepare the time it comes to transplant my tree. So far roots aren't peeking through the nursery pot. I did buy mine from fast growing trees. I was skeptical when I first bought it but, when it arrived. It came in great shape.expenwive yes but quality is nice.
For container growing, when it is time to water, how much do you add? Do you water until the water comes out of the drainage holes?
I need part two of this care.. more so that CA hit with a citrus virus.
My family had an orange grove in Monrovia in the 1930’s, and thankfully I still have the crate label. My childhood home was built on an old citrus orchard and when they dug to put in a 2nd sewer line— they hit large clay “pipes”. Apparently these pipes were used to water at root level for the orchards. We also had smudge pots everywhere. We had the original Meyer lemon tree on our property which was way sweeter than the improved version, but unfortunately it died last year. I’ve also learned that you can easily, on accident, bonsai a citrus tree using a felt pot. They’re very tough trees, and I would encourage anyone in SoCal to grow them instead of ornamental parkway trees. ]
Hey big fan of your videos can i put it in the basement with a grow light
I just bought a key lime tree it came in a black 3 gallon nursery pot. When would you recommend I repot it?
I love your videos. They are informative, easy and great tutorials for someone just learning. I also really love how you have different videos for different growing conditions. Thank you.
You can mess with roots… The Japanese have done it thousands of years with the art of Bonsai. Just remember when you mess with the roots, be sure to nurture the plant (proper watering and nutritients) until established.
Your friends definitely hooked you up with a great tree! The one I ordered from FastGrowingTrees just arrived and is pretty spindly. Should I be concerned that it looks like the trunk was once two large branches near the base of the plant, and one was chopped off prior to transporting to me? I already had them replace one (cherry blossom) tree for me under warranty so I am weary of running into more issues. And heartbreak </3
beautiful pot!
Hi Kevin, my lemon seedlings are germinating super well. True leaves are showing after a week. I wonder if it grows well in tropical climate – plenty of sunshine all year round! Do you think it will survive?
I’m not sure why I bought a 4 foot tree but they snipped everything but one branch from fastgrowingtrees
I just received my tree on Saturday, I'm new at this so I will need all the help I can get.
Such great content! I live in San Diego as welll! Great area for citrus.
My lemon plant is producing a bunch of very tiny lemon (about a size of pumpkin seed) but its turning yellow and it’s falling off from the plant 😒.
My lemon tree stopped producing leafs and isn't growing 🙁 measures about 3-4ft Can I have some help please? 🙂
GM, you said the meyer plant needs drainage. You didn't put drainage hole in bottom. How will it survive.
Please advise. My lemon tree is five foot tall it is in green house it is easy 4 year old I have never seen flowers or fruit the only thing it's got is big thorns. It's really green and healthy looking I live in England
Which type of Cactus mix and soil did you use in this video?
Former San Diego girl here 🙂 I now live in Ponte Vedra, FL (NE FL), and bought a mini Meyer lemon tree today, hoping to keep it in a pot, since for some odd reason, whenever I try to transplant, my plants die 🙁 Will be starting some seedlings in a few weeks, need to wait for the hottest part of this lovely Florida summer to pass, so as not to anger my plants.
I have a small lemon tree I started from store lemon. Put it under a grow lite for a month or so this spring it was looking a little sorry after winter. Perked right up.
Would love to know how long before you should let it produce fruit. I have a very small tree that i've had for a year in a pot- maybe half the size of the one in the video – and it's been trying to fruit since I got it. I've been picking off the buds to help it grow – is this what I should be doing and when is it safe to let it fruit?
Can you go over planting one in your yard? Thx
Great tips. We just bought a Meyer Lemon Tree and have lots to learn. We're up North in WA state so not the greatest temps.
Would you please do a video on pollinating a lemon tree that is indoors? I understand you can do so with a Q-tip in the absence of bees.
I also just planted a lemon tree this past weekend! I'm glad I came across this video and subscribed! I planted my tree in a tall pot twice+ the width of the root ball and lots of room in depth. No drainage holes though. 🙁 However, I did put in about 6 inches of golf ball sized rocks at the bottom. Am I okay? Will this work? — Oh, and it is indoors, in my Florida room/enclosed patio.
If I grow a Lemon tree from the seed will it have fruit?
Hi I am a first time home owner and bought a mater lemon tree a year ago. It has started giving fruit BUT only green lemons, the yellow lemons die and turn black as soon as they form. The green ones have been harvested and they taste nice but why are the yellow ones not growing at all? Can you help me out here.thanks.
Great video
Just found your channel! Awesome videos. QUESTION: For indoor lemon trees, do you need to pollinate them in order for them to bloom? If so, how do you do that?
I just got my dwarf Meyer lemon tree shipped to me and happened to have gotten cactus potting soil for succulents and noticed it said citrus so thankfully it's used that in transferring it to to an bigger container. It had two little leaves on it. Then I went to outside today and something had been chewing on it 😭😭 I live in Zone 6 B and have some bunnies and cats in the area. Do they eat branches and leaves?!
Nobody mentioned that container-grown citrus is very prone to scale, mealies, and even spider mites. Every citrus tree that I have lost have been because of one of those three insects, not because of over/under watering or lack of light.
