Maybe the part where the rod is usually stucked is made of stainless metal where you can heat it a bit from outside to soften the propolis and help to make the push.

Fantastic concept Nick, this will be a game changer! If you have trouble with the propolis jamming up the system, have you considered making it so that the rods protrude and can be rotated individually? More time consuming than sliding them all at once, but maybe easier overall if prone to jamming. I love your work mate 👍
