All of the tattoos in this video were done by me except for the traditional eye tattoo at 18:56. That one was done by Kayla Gibson, @kgibsontattoos on IG.
Video is much appreciated. You answered most if not all my questions. There is like no info on this subject for darker skin

I am a black woman also. I dont really like colored tattoos for myself, and I also noticed that black-inked tattoos are a bit overpowering against my tone. Not sure what to do now. lol.
So basically dark skinned people can't have cool tattoos…
Damn you good! Ok my brother!!!! 😍😍😍😍👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
I'm glad you did this it was amazing and a very good explanation of what and why it is what it is !! Thanks NAZIA ❤✌👍
Thank you so much, I appreciate you taking the time out to explain. I’m between a 6&7 and I want a tattoo for breast cancer ( pink ribbon) and now I have greater understanding of how my tattoo will look!!! You are now an honorary black guy for your in depth details 🤣🤣
What about Japanese tattoos?
I'm interested in what the best options are for stretch marks
Do you know where I could find the skin tone scale he's referring to?
This is great, thank you 🙏

So glad I found your page. Been looking for this information!
This was a nice, informative and helpful video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us. Only thing I want to say is I don't see why someone (a person of sub sahara african descent) would call a tattoo artist racist for advising against getting a certain tattoo/tattoo style/color. I think it's common knowledge that it just is more challenging to work on darker skin and it's not a personal thing, if you look at it from case to case. HOWEVER, the fact that there isn't that much information and training readily available to tattoo artists and tattoo lovers, IS racist. The fact that a lot of tattoo artist choose not to master the skill of tattooing on darker complexions is a byproduct of racism. Imo, if you're a tattoo artist, I get why you would only put your best work in your portfolio, but upholding the lack of inclusion by adding mostly pictures of your work on white people, just isn't right. Just because something is challenging doesn't mean it's impossible. I've had a few pieces done on me and the different tattoo artists were skilled on creating in dark skin, which I'm grateful for. I find it very understandable though, how frustrating it may be for others who can't say the same..
I am learning corrective medical tattooing, and struggle with darker skins, to get scar camouflage right. I live in South Africa and there is very little available in courses and they mostly only cover lighter skin tones. I did a scar camouflage on a lady`s knee. It was a very light scar and now its darker then the rest of her knee. Can you assist me with advice/
Very informative. Appreciate your knowledge which is going to help me make a choice.
That was a really nice and informative video so thank you for that 😀 I'm really liking watercolor tattoos with blues, pinks, purples and greens. I'm a 5 on your chart I think. I hope they'll look good on me
Thank you for the information on dark skin, I am getting a tattoo today, and I want color, so this is good to know, and I am sure my artist knows as well.
i’d also say if you’re darker skin tone do not get tattoos in the summer, it will be harder to tattoo the base layer, wait till the winter if you can when you’re less exposed to sun, i get 2-3 shades darker during summer because i’m always outside
Thank you!! I've been searching the internet for months 😭
I remember my artist had done a live video on this on Facebook and his portfolio is full of photos of skin with melanin above a 6 with various undertones. Of course, he photos with direct fluorescent lighting without flash, but he still attempts to photograph because he feels it's important for clients of color to be represented when color is selected and applied properly. I appreciate everything about this video and feels it's Imperative for artists and clients alike to know and execute this information
He keep’s it 1000 % professional and Factual.
Black ink only Im like a 7 dark the ink I have now is black Ink and it shows really well faded asf and need it touched up 😂 but you can see it
All you dark skin people getting tattoos are blocking the sunrays from hitting your bodies furthermore disconnecting you from the planet which is very vital for your spiritual development this is why everybody is going crazy because y'all are disconnecting y'all selfs from the planet which is very bad..tattoos weren't meant for the body
Great video and advices. I live in Germany and the majority of tatoo examples I see are on white skin. The information you provided is very useful since I want to get my first tatoo. Thank you
