  1. For some reason my seeds are not developing good root system.
They germinate just fine and start looking good but the seed seems to stay at the surface with barely any root developed.
Any ideas on how to deal with this situation.
I'm using a premium seed raising mix and putting seeds in modules, sown inside next to a window.
    Appreciate your help.
Thank you Charles for all your informative videos.

  2. I’m a complete vegetable growing rookie but you’ve given me enough confidence to start and I may just have saved my lettuce seedlings from the brink.
Thank you for your videos. I try and watch BEFORE I do smg, but enthusiasm runs away with me and then I have to undo my mistakes!!! I’m trying to enjoy it and not be stressed. You’re the perfect teacher! 💐💐💐

  3. Question for you Charles, in today's world of GMO's and the ever hybridization of our garden crops, how does one know the seeds chosen are actually ones that will be friendly to the environment? The environment I mention is one of the plant world in which we humans are not aware of like mycorrhizal fungi and it relationship with the plants we grow in the garden.

I have known for many years that GMO crops can no longer form any relationship with mycorrhizal Fungi, is the same true with some hybrids?

Most people don't know our garden crops are actually carbon and nitrogen filters, in that they are filtering carbon and nitrogen out of the air and putting into the soil for the use of fungi and bacteria in the soil in exchange for all kinds of minerals and nutrients the garden plants could never obtain on it's own. I always wonder about hybrids?

  4. You have to be one of the best and inovative gardeners that I have come across. Wish I could be taken under your wing "so to speak" Too bad there is this world wide travel ban thing due to this virus emergency. If I was half as smart as you I could feed my family here in Wisconsin USA. Should have listened to my Mom. Thanks for the online education!!

  5. Charles – the ContainerWise module trays: is there anywhere that sells them at retail level, not pallet level? Containerwise website says they only sell by the pallet, which is rather more than most of us need to run an allotment lol.Did you band together with other market gardeners or did you find an outlet where you could buy a sensible number?

  6. I make my own compost but get a ton of volunteer tomatoes when I use it in the garden. Some of the volunteers I will let grow. Do you have that issue with your compost?

  7. Hi Charles, how do you prevent your seedlings from dying after being planted out? I know you don't harden them off and plant them sometimes when quite young. I lost cauliflower and onion a few days after planting

  8. Thank you so much! Wonderful video. It's hard to find good propagation trays that have the larger holes in the bottom. My husband and I have been getting so much from the books Stephanie and yourself have written. We have been doing our best to adjust sowing/planting from your diary/calender to suit our growing area. Stay safe and healthy!

  9. Lovely, thank you. Interesting that you germinate the hardy seeds indoors too. Maybe that’s where I’ve gone wrong with mine, particularly the onions which just don’t seem to want to show themselves yet. I am much further north than you on the Yorkshire moors, so they would probably appreciate some extra warmth to get them going. 😊

  10. I live half way up a mountain in North Wales and wondered if there’s another economical way of making a heat source if you can’t get fresh from the horse manure? I have a poly tunnel and a green house with electric point in it. Thank you. It’s always so relaxing and inspiring to watch your videos and I totally agree that if they were twice as long , I’d be delighted. We learn so much and get reminded so gently of what we may have forgotten, so thank you for sharing in such a chatty and easy to watch manner.

  11. Inspired by your hot bed, I have germinated my carrots on top of my dalek bin full of chicken manure! It worked really well. Love all your advice and teaching.

  12. Love it! Question though: How do you increase the germination % of spinach? I cannot seem to reach 15% or so.

  13. Charles is doing good work just look at those seedlings they are growing strong. Charles is putting me to shame every time i look towards the garden it is lashing down have not got my seeds yet the hardware store use to get them has closed there doors now i will order them from Sutton seeds better get going. It is a real pleasure to watch Charles and learn about growing vegetables never could pick up that much from the BBC i think Charles would make a great presenter on the BBC he explains every thing better

  14. Hi Charles hope you are well. Do you sieve the compost prior to putting it in the modules ? Thanks again for the great series and stay safe Mr.

  15. I am a life long gardener and learning so may of the "rules" I was taught are wrong! Multisowing in addition to starting peas, beans and corn etc. ahead in cells are a new concept for me. Thank you for the wealth of knowledge! Also, you are not a bit long winded! I am always disappointed when a video ends.

  16. Last year I done a few tomatos in my wee greenhouse and made one 2 x 3m raised bed.
Last week I found your channel, and bought The Veg Course, Veg Journal and Starting a New Veg Garden.
You've given me and my fiance the confidence to take the dive and order a tonne of compost, bought a polytunnel and built another 2 raised beds. We multisowed 160+ modules last night with your guidance, using your methods. I got 60L of the Dalefoot Wool compost for sowing
Amazing work Charles, thank you for the inspiration!

  17. Charles. When you're making up a hot bed. Wouldn't it be more beneficial in the long run. To bag up Manures etc and then flatten the top of the bags. So when it heats up and then comes to moving it out again. It's only a matter of moving out the bags again. So saving time from forking or shovelling it out ? Along with using large Lit Candles under some Clay Pots to heat the Greenhouse ? Thanks.
