great vid! just wondering, is it okay to use any random led lights (i.e strip lights off amazon) for the plant to photosynthesise properly? And if so, what brand would you recommend (within a reasonably low price range 😂) cheers!
Do you think you need more magnesium w LED? Many people have deficiencies when switching to LED from HPS or MH. Why do you think that happens? Lower heat to leaf surface? Better spectrum causing plants to use more mag? Inferior spectrum causing deficiencies? Ive heard many theories. Im having this issue now and would love to hear what you think about it.
I cultivated the like button 🙂 Thanks for a great video!
only white leds… that red blue purple stuff is just a funny looking thing not doing anything special and is outdated. i cant believe people still fall for these lights
10/10 for absorbable content. Outstanding.
is there any one grow cannabis?
Dude, I have $700, what is the best led light I can get for that? It's too much money to waste if I dont get the right one. It's for a 1.2×1.2 tent. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Would you mind recommending an led brand to use? Would be much appreciated 🙏🏼
Anybody using the HLG 550 V2 r spec? if so, what are your thoughts about them?
I paid a bunch for a platinum led for bloom and veg mode on it? Why did I pay so much please tell me, I have no clue I think I paid 500$
GD my brother, you got a hell of a nerd hat..
Great vid. I appreciate your help..
I think you forgot to mention the most important thing which is what actually plant want. What type of light? How many blue photons how many red and green photons….i mean what is the right mix of photons that plants need. When you have this info then you are able to evaluate how good your light is in reaching the goal. Then you need an instrument able to measure the light properly. Without knowing the aim (what plants need) and without having a proper instrument it is like being blind driving a car with no speedometer and having to judge how good is the car you are driving.
several years ago a commercial made-in-china 200 watt led fixture was taken apart. what horrified me was to see how poorly the leds were heat-sinked to the metal frame. no sign of quality control at the factory. this absence shows up often in chinese import electronics. and is one of the first things i dive in to correct. heat-sink compound is pricey. and worth the peace of mind for the corrective efforts taken
keeping the leds cool is vital to a long life. and this DIY way allows one to play with driving the leds in the direction of 100% wattage rating. between adequate heat – sink and a cooling fan you will learn how well the leds hold up
the crowded nature of the leds in the 6 sub-fixtures had me cannabilize them and build one the same size as the floor of the grow area. this spreads out the light evenly. the heat sinks are now 6" pieces of 12 – gage solid copper wire. they solder right onto the led backside. and hang free in the air for heat transfer
for power the original power supplies (3) were used. over time though this design was improved upon. with new 2 watt red & blue leds from ebay more were added to raise the lumens. the power supply is now a 60 V 5A one off ebay. a '6005'
occasionally a led will fail and the entire string that one is connected to goes dark. it takes about 5 minutes to jumper-wire test each led in the string and find the one that once jumpered returns light to all the rest. for the time being the j-wire across the 'dark' one can just stay there in place. this will boost the current a few percent in that string , making them shine brighter. and later when convenient that led can be replaced with a new one.
my solder gun is a ' 8200 N ' by weller. about $10 at a pawn shop
the design is further modifiable. with newer 5 watt leds. and a 2'd 6005 p.s. or other variations you think of.
overall , yes its a lot of work to build and less so to maintain. and is a source of pleasure to learn how many years they have and still run. the ROI is substantial
How do you feel about black dog leds recent video on orca grow tent film vs gorilla grow tents diamond mylar, orca grew popular around 2011. I’m trying to find out if the whole orca film video i saw was deceptive marketing since I had no idea about orca until my recent searches for a tent.
How would you compare the quality of the ledtonic z5 to that of an hlg 100 v2 or maybe a hlg 300 v2 rspec
Highly recommend Mars Hydro 2000 or 3000 series. Great prices and awesome full spec light
Very helpful video. Thank you so much. Im new to all this and I just subscribed to your channel.
It's been 4 years since I started hydroponics (food, not weed). The LEDs then were terrible so I went with HID. Researching once again.
True but that's why LED diodes last so long. Like quantum boards they put a ton of diodes on a board so they dont need to run the diode so hard so it burns out in a short time.. Samsung 301lmb diodes are run at like 0.8 percent of what the diode can actually produce. More diodes less power draw equals a long lasting quality light. Anyways thanks for the video.
The Phantom XL is producing 3.1 micro moles per joule. Anyways that's its efficacy. That thing is fantastic.
My nerd hat is on!
In July of 2019 efficacy king per watt/per dollar are white quantum LEDs. Why are you providing links to expensive/per watt Blurple Lights????
Seems like you're flogging just one light to me.
i dont now inglish, de cuantos watts dijo que es ?
im here for learning how to grow "food" brain food that is!
How come plants can see green if it's like night for them? People put green lights for a dark period to assure no light licks… What are you talking about ?
