Bitch, if the plant don't fit, DON'T CUT THE ROOTS (succulents are the exception, though in the example they gave there wasn't a need to cut off the roots)! It'll just stress the plant out! Instead, get a plant that will fit.

Be careful with adding the rocks as drainage. The roots will just grow into them searching for water and rot sitting in the water since there is no actual drainage hole.
