supernatural’s amazing soundtrack and catchy theme song are truly the heart and soul of the show. we’ve seen a lot of songs used, but they never lose their power. from the classic rock, to the country, to the orchestral, to the funk, and the pop, they’re all there. personally, i think the theme of the show is one of the strongest. it’s powerful, catchy, and iconic, in a way that few theme songs ever are. there are even fan-favorite lines included on some songs. no matter where in the world you live, no matter what you listen to in your car, the songs will still bring back memories for you. even if you don’t quite remember what episode they’re from, most people can hum the theme. it’s truly an honor to be able to listen to the songs and remembering why i’m missing out on so much cool tv.
immediately after the 50s theme song roll, the opening credits instantly put you right into season 2, and the ominous tone of the music throughout the rest of the episode sets the tone for the story. the series takes a sharp turn from “church,” which is the setting of the first episode and “the rabbit hole,” the town where the action takes place. here, the series picks up with a teenaged bobby (played by mike farrell), who is the fresh-faced next generation of the boys of the original nine. he’s still naive, idiotic, and very, very stubborn, yet he’s also well liked by his family and friends.
when it comes to season 2, the music was better. perhaps the more mainstream feel helped, but i think it was also the result of a more seasoned cast. the writing was more polished and the chemistry was better. it was also a little easier to find the songs i wanted because there were so many good bands out there. music companies were also more willing to license the music to television shows because they were more aware of the potential of streaming music. the show is also missing the first five episodes, which means you’re missing the montage, and the first introduction of the winchesters. i’ll never understand why that episode was cut, but it’s still one of my favorite episodes of the show.
i feel like those things dont really go together. when i was growing up in the midwest, i grew up watching supernatural, and ive always thought of it as a female-led show. i feel like the shows themes and focus are on women, and ive always felt that way about it.
shoshannah: supernatural is a show ive always wanted to watch. i think that if i were watching it for the first time, i would really enjoy it as a woman, because there are so many strong female characters. the show is a family comedy, with a lot of heart, and the characters are written to be fun and they are all very strong. its a show that i think that im not alone in loving, and if i were to watch it for the first time now, i would absolutely love it. i think it would appeal to a lot of women because i think it would be fun and funny, and it would be a show that would show women in a different light.
there’s a fine line between a good episode and a great episode. supernatural has crossed it more than a few times and with this episode in particular. it was one of those rare times when the show really had me on the edge of my seat and wondering what was going to happen next. there are a couple of things that i’d like to see added to the story, but overall this episode was a great start to the season and a great way to end a long stretch of time since the last episode.
now that the season 6 finale is out, we have the opportunity to discuss it (and everything else that happened in the episode) in the comments. not only can we address the show, we can ask questions of the cast and crew about the episode, and about their shows and experiences and opinions. we can even have a discussion about the show in general, and about life and fandom. do be gentle with the the cast and crew, because we know youre all busy and cant always stay on top of everything. but we also know that youre all just as busy and have much more important things to do. so lets have it!
