the earliest qunari society was a matriarchal one. this lasted for 4,000 years. in 6,000 years, the qunari had established a civilization that was based on the ideology of the tribe. the qunari leaders are known as matriarchs. under their rule, the qunari have established a society similar to that of an early viking or norse society. none of the qunari share a language. however, they share some common traits and a shared set of culture. the qunari believe that the gods have created them all, and they therefore don’t need to understand what the other races are saying. however, they do know the language of diplomacy, trade, and war because it is the language of the gods. communication is simply understood through negotiations and good will.
the qunari are the only people in thedas who have given the warden the ability to summon wraiths and tame them. [10] in dragon age origins, the qunari ben-hassrath is the only male qunari that you can befriend without doing so through the tamassrai. the warden can call upon him at any time, either to help them fight the qunari praag or to aid them in their mission. if the warden is later robbed of his ben-hassrath, you can go and find him and free him from the qunari. qunari culture embraces the use of magic. tamassrai are the qunari equivalent to the mages guild in kirkwall, with a status similar to that of a noble. the tamassrai, which consists of a priest and some priests called ben-hassrath, plays a major role in the religious process. tamassrai are very powerful mages, able to produce powerful magics from their fingertips or by using others, with the added ability to use healing magics. these powers usually increase over time, but tamassrai must constantly fight against the nature that is threatening to consume their power. over time, tamassrai learn to balance themselves, becoming more powerful but sacrificing their essence for the greater good.
