# Open up the Layered Editor
Using Photoshop, you can open images on the desktop, manipulate them, copy and paste layers, and create new layers. You can save your work and copy your work to other images.
The basic tools are located at the bottom of the Layers panel, as shown in Figure 6-8. If you need to work on an image that’s open on the desktop, you can use the program’s Window menu to open the image.

You can also go to the Layers panel, displayed in Figure 6-9, and navigate the layers using the tabs across the top of the panel. This is a useful way to edit your image because you can keep different steps of your editing in separate layers. For example, you can separate the foreground from the background. You can use the tab on the right to add a new layer.

Before you start changing the layers, you need to make sure that the tool you’re going to use is selected. There are two ways to select a tool:
Selecting a tool To select a tool, press and hold down the Command key on your keyboard while moving your cursor over the tool. When you see an icon for the tool, press and release the Command key. The tool changes to a stroke icon. In some cases, you may see the tool icon change to a hand icon, as shown in Figure 6-10.

How to open and edit photos or images in Photoshop Elements
Choose the file
You can open and edit images in Photoshop Elements 2020 just like in any other version of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Click the File menu in the menu bar of the software and select Open.
In the Open dialog window, select Browse if you have not yet set your default folder for new documents. Otherwise, select From disk.
In the file selector, highlight the image you want to open, and click Open. If a dialog window appears, click OK or Continue.
When your photo opens in Photoshop Elements 2020, you see the basic image editing area, as shown in the following image.

Choose the adjustment layer
You can add one or more adjustment layers to your image.
Click the Layers menu in the menu bar and choose New Adjustment Layer to open the New Adjustment Layer dialog box.
If you have only one active layer, such as the Basic Image Editing area, click OK.
In the New Adjustment Layer dialog box, in the Adjustments panel, click + Add.
In the Adjustments panel, choose Curves in the Category list, click OK, and then click OK again.
Click the Curves Adjustment Layer thumbnail to display a number line over the image. This is the reference point that you will use to adjust the curve.
Note:
You can adjust any shape or texture on a layer, such as a Background layer, before you apply a Curves adjustment. You can adjust multiple layers at once. To adjust multiple layers, you need to group them first.

Note:
If you apply a Curves adjustment and want to start over, you can use the Undo command to remove the adjustment.
Click the Curves adjustment layer to highlight it.
On the Adjustments panel, in the Shape drop-down menu, choose Reverse.
Click the triangle at the bottom of the Curves adjustment layer to make this part of the adjustment unselected.

How to mix node.js, php and Java?
I don’t know if it’s possible or not, but I would like to create a web page that asks an user to register and then the user stores his/her personal informations in a MySQL database.
The purpose of this web page is to add not so repetitive tasks to a personal project. So far I have a java program that sends the user’s informations to an array, and then nodes.js and php that read that array, and then use it for instance to create and insert a record in the database. I would like to create a web page with a form in which the user can enter his/her informations, a javascript function that will read those informations and will send them in the right node.js function. How can I do this? If it’s possible, what’s the right approach?

It sounds like you’re approaching this whole concept of “it’s not possible, but what you want is (probably) doable by doing (not) this”.
I’m not saying this is going to be easy, but it is a possibility. I suggest that you use Node.js with Express to create a HTTP API and then have your Java program talk to that API. You can then build a web page for your users to interact with without any javascript.
You can use jQuery or similar libraries to get data back and forth to and from the client browser. There are a lot of libraries for building JavaScript client-side and for getting data back and forth from your server.
